Crowns, Inlays, and Onlays

Restoring Smiles with Crowns, Inlays, and Onlays

A damaged or severely worn tooth can cause discomfort and prevent you from eating the crunchy and chewy foods you love. Dr. Madison applies custom crowns, inlays, and onlays to return structural integrity to compromised teeth.

A crown sits atop a damaged tooth to restore shape and function and protect it from further damage. Dr. Madison uses all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and gold crowns to renew oral integrity. He’ll consider tooth location and stressors to determine which material to use. All-ceramic crowns look and feel like natural teeth, so they’ll blend seamlessly into your smile.

Expect three visits to design and place custom crowns. Following a consultation and exam, Dr. Madison will prepare your tooth for restoration, take a dental impression, and fit you with a temporary. A skilled ceramist at a trusted, local lab will hand make your crown in a shade matching your natural tooth color. When your restoration is completed, Dr. Madison will remove the temporary and permanently affix your crown to restore your smile and renew your quality of life.

Dr. Madison may recommend an inlay or onlay if your damaged tooth doesn’t require a full crown but needs more restoration than a filling can provide. An inlay fits between the cusps, or bumps, of a tooth. An onlay fits over one or more bumps. Like crowns, inlays and onlays are custom restorations made by hand in a dental lab.
